It was tragedy that led to finding Borias. I lost my doberman to sudden death, of cardiomyopathy, and after not being able to bear such a horribly quiet house, I went searching for my  next partner. I decided  to get a different breed, and chose the German Shepherd Dog, since I had them as a child, and was attracted to the breed for all their great qualities. Not liking the American show lines, I turned to searching for a German working line boy, wishing to train him as my assistance dog. No easy task, after much effort, I was about to give up for awhile, when I happened to find a number I had scribbled on my list of  breeders, and gave it a call, leaving a message of what I desired.

Well, as fate would have it, there was some folks who were at the breeder’s home, searching for a SAR prospect, and conducting an intensive test. They had assessed that this very large, laid back fellow would make  a very good assistance dog, which thrilled the breeder. She had wanted to have one of her breeding produce a dog for such a job!

I first met my pup at 4 weeks old, and fell instantly in love. Four weeks later (the longest four weeks ever!!) he came home, and began going everywhere with me from that first day together.

He was truly a very remarkable pup. Taking to learning tasks like picking

up objects like a duck to water. His talent was evident at the young age of just 12 weeks old, when one day I was shopping at the grocery store, and thought I had lost my wallet when it dropped from my lap. I lamented that out loud, and before I knew it, he rushed behind me, and came back proudly presenting my wallet in his mouth! What a good boy!!
